The Visit

You swept in

To the railing

Outside my bedroom window

Graceful

Swift and strong

Confident 

Peaceful

A surprise 

Unexpected 

But almost

Like I was expecting you

You stayed

For a time

Checking on me

Reminding me you’re here

Always

Watching over

Even when I can’t see you

You’re here

Magnificent

Wise

Strong

Calm and

Knowing

Sitting on the railing

Watching

For an eternity

Of minutes

Like you’d always been there

Until you turned your head

And in an instant 

Dove

Flying 

Swiftly away

Suddenly you’re gone

As if you’d never been

But still

Leaving me full of awe

And gratitude 

Sadness and hope

Remembering

Missing

Your constant presence

Looking different now

But still here

Always here

And I am left

Grateful 

Reminding myself

Of my own

Grace and strength

Wisdom and peace

Steadiness

As I stare out the window

Remembering 

Feeling you here

And looking forward 

To the next visit.
